Patients Relieved As Doctors Call Off Strike In Major UP Hospitals

Patients Relieved As Doctors Call Off Strike In Major UP Hospitals The striking junior doctors in Uttar Pradesh have decided to call off their seven days strike after getting a written assurance that their demands will be met in a week.

The Junior Resident doctors at Gorakhpur Medical College were the first one who called off their strike. The doctors at Kanpur, Meerut and Allahabad followed later.

It may be here recalled that the doctors had been on strike for a week, asking the government to increase their salary as per the Sixth Pay Commission and inclusion of non-practicing allowance in their pay package.

Meanwhile, the 24-hour notice given to the striking doctors also ended on Monday.

Confirming the development, a doctor from Kanpur said: "We have postponed our strike. The principals have given it in writing that their assurance came after a consultation with the Principal Secretary and the Director General of Medical Education."

On the other hand, Harbhajan Singh, Principal Secretary, Medical Education, pointed out that the matter will be followed at the government level and legitimate demands of the junior doctors will be met.

The patients heaved a sigh of relief as they had been facing inconvenience for the past one week.
