Pearson buys remaining 20% stake in TutorVistaBritish publishing & education firm Pearson has finally gained full control over Bangalore-based online education services provider TutorVista.

Serial entrepreneur couple Krishnan Ganesh and Meena Ganesh has confirmed that they sold the remaining 20 per cent stake in TutorVista to Pearson.

Announcing the stake sale, Ganesh said, "I sold the entire stake. Pearson owns the entire business. There are no other investors, me and my wife Meena, there was employee stock ownership plan or Esops and nearly 100 employees made good money."

However, the couple did not reveal the precise amount of money paid for the recent transaction. In 2011, Pearson had acquired a majority stake in TutorVista for Rs 577 crore that had valued the then five-year-old company at nearly Rs 1,000 crore.

In 2009, the British firm had acquired a minority stake in Bangalore-based online education services provider, and increased its stake to a controlling position of 80 per cent by the year 2011. It was also agreed at the time that the couple had to sell the remaining 20 per cent stake in a maximum period of three years.

TutorVista, which was founded in 2005, has a workforce of 1,300 professionals working across online tutoring, school management, tuition, test preparation, and communications technology.
