Amartya Sen lauds government''s Right to Food Bill

New Delhi, Aug. 8 : The United Progressive Alliance Government earned appreciation of the Nobel laureate Amartya Sen over the Government''s draft of a Right to Food (Guarantee of Safety and Security) Bill.
Speaking during a panel discussion in the national capital on Saturday, Amartya Sen called the Government's initiative being "a step in the right direction".

London, June 13 : Nobel laureate Amartya Sen was conferred the honorary Doctor of Letters degree by the University of Cambridge.
The degree was conferred on him on Friday by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the 800th Anniversary Honorary Degree Congregation at the Senate House in Cambridge.

Eminent economist and Nobel laureate Prof Amartya Sen has asked the
Union government to provide primary health care facilities to people,
particularly those coming from economically weaker sections of society.
Prof Sen said that the policymakers need to be more responsive towards
the common people. He also asked the state government to allocate more
funds for the district hospitals to improve primary health care
facilities.

New Delhi, Aug 11 : Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen will deliver the inaugural Professor Hiren Mukherjee Annual Parliamentary Lecture in the Central Hall of Parliament today.
The lecture on "Demands of Social Justice" will be presided over by Vice President Hamid Ansari, while Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest.
The lecture is expected to be attended by several dignitaries and guests.
A portrait of Mukherjee will also be unveiled on the occasion.
