New Delhi - Former Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was in a serious condition Saturday as he fought a respiratory infection, officials at the Delhi hospital treating him said.

"He is in a serious but stable condition and continues to be on mechanical ventilation following lower respiratory tract infection," the All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS) medical superintendent DK Sharma said.

Vajpayee, 85, was admitted to the intensive care unit of hospital on Tuesday night, after he complained of difficulty in breathing Tuesday night.

New Delhi, Feb 7 : Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee continues to be on ventilator on Saturday.

Vajpayee''s condition started deteriorating on Friday evening. He was immediately put on ventilator as his lungs required support.

Medical Superintendent of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Dr. D K Sharma said, " Vajpayee''s condition is stable. His basic parameters including blood pressure, heart, lever, and kidney are functioning normally."

A team of doctors is continuously monitoring Vajpayee''s progress.

New Delhi, Feb. 6 : The health condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee deteriorated on Friday, and doctors had to put him on "mechanical ventilation".

According to a latest medical bulletin released by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) this evening, Vajpayee continues to have lower respiratory tract infection, which has worsened since the morning. He is being monitored by a team of doctors.

Vajpayee's other basic parameters including, his blood pressure, liver and kidney functions were normal, said doctors.
