Rustenburg, South Africa - Tournament favourites Spain booked their place in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup Wednesday while hosts South Africa secured their first victory of tournament.

Spain needed a second-half goal from David Villa to secure a 1-0 victory over a dogged Iraqi side in Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium while two goals from Bernard Parker gave the Bafana Bafana a 2-0 win over New Zealand in Rustenburg.

Bloemfontein, South Africa - David Villa had many reasons to be happy Wednesday, but he was not exactly smiling after scoring a goal that booked Spain's place in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup in South Africa.

A low look, earphones in place, and a quick pace alongside a Spanish federation press official: that was the picture of the Valencia striker after the game. Indeed, in recent days, Villa keeps remembering his love of music every time he sees a reporter.

Madrid - Valencia moved up to fifth Sunday in the Spanish Liga with a 4-1 thrashing of lowly Getafe.

Euro 2008 top scorer David Villa put Valencia on the road to victory by calmly putting away two penalties. Fellow Spanish internationals Juan Mata and Raul Albiol scored Valencia's other goals.

"It was important for us to win tonight," said Albiol, "in order to keep our Champions League chances alive."

Albiol and company are now just two points behind fourth-placed Villarreal, who crashed 3-0 Saturday at Almeria.
