Oram hits out at detractors over New Zealand cricket commitment

Auckland (New Zealand), Oct. 16 : Recently retired New Zealand Test all-rounder Jacob Oram has hit out at detractors who have questioned his commitment to the national team.
The 31-year-old injury-prone Black Caps allrounder on Tuesday announced his retirement from test cricket in a bid to extend his longevity in shorter forms of the game.
His decision was yesterday still being dissected by sport fans on radio talkback phone lines and by media commentators around the country.

Wellington, Oct. 12 : New Zealand allrounder Jacob Oram has reportedly decided to retire from the Test cricket in order to prolong his one-day and Twenty20 cricket career.
Oram, who wants remain injury free to perform well in the shorter versions of the game, may make an announcement about his retirement this week, Stuff. co. nz reports.
Following his disappointing return from the Champions Trophy with yet another injury, Oram was devastated and he decided to take matters into his own hands, sources said
New Zealand Players'' Association boss Heath Mills did not deny Oram was on the verge of retirement.

Auckland (New Zealand), June 27 : New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has given himself two more years at international level, and says he''s determined to make the most of that time in the middle.
At 31, Oram still feels good days are around the corner.
"My body is feeling good. I may only have a couple of years left in the game, if that, so I want to make the most of it and finish on a high and on my terms," the Dominion Post quoted him, as saying.

Wellington, Apr. 7 : New Zealand cricket selectors have taken a gamble by selecting injury-prone all rounder Jacob Oram in their Twenty20 World Cup squad today.
Oram played no part in the three-test series against India because of an Achilles tendon strain. He is currently playing for Central Districts in the State Championship final against Auckland at Christchurch.
The fickle English climate had presented a challenge in selecting the side.

Here’s sad news for Chennai Super Kings. Kiwi all-rounder Jacob Oram might pull out of the much awaited Indian Premier League (IPL)'s second season, if a pesky Achilles tendon injury, which has been ailing him for sometime now, stops his involvement in the domestic State Championship final on April 6..
Chennai Super Kings picked the Kiwi all-rounder for a massive 675,000 dollars last year. Oram played a big role with both bat and ball in Chennai's first three wins in the last season of the IPL.

Wellington, Mar 6: New Zealand all rounder Jacob Oram has expressed reservations about playing in next month’s Indian Premier League after the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan.
Oram is contracted to the Chennai Super Kings for 675,000 dollars a year, but Oram said on Thursday that no amount of money would persuade him to put his life in danger.
Oram admitted that the eight deaths in Lahore on Tuesday, coming so soon after the Mumbai terror attacks in November, in which more than 170 died, had unnerved him and made touring India no longer a straightforward exercise.

Ewen Thompson and Nathan McCullum from the Twenty20 squad have been omitted.
Stuff. co. nz quoted selection panel chairman Glenn Turner as saying that the squad was a strong one, which reflected the sizeable pool of players in consistent good form at international and domestic levels.
The selectors had decided not to include a second spinner in the initial ODI squad, Turner said.
