"Everything has an influence on our subconscious mind and therefore the responses we have in various situations are because of all those influences," she added.

"Firaaq was not released properly. There was no marketing. There were some rumours that the film was released before elections and no one was sure who would come to power in Gurajat or at the centre. So I don't know, but the film really suffered because of this," Nandita told reporters at the 40th edition of the International Film Festival of India here.

"My top priority at this moment is to attract large number of children from different regions and classes to the children's film festival," Nandita Das told reporters here while speaking on the sidelines of the programme "Joy of Giving".

The six-day Golden Elephant International Children's Film Festival of India will be held in Hyderabad.

Gujarat-based multiplex owners association said that their dispute with the distributor over profit sharing was the main reason for not showcasing the movie in the state.

Manubhai Patel, President, All Gujarat Multiplex Association, said, “It’s not clear yet. We have not finalised profit sharing with the distributor. We have to figure out the percentage.”

Firaaq, a Percept Picture Company (PPC) production, is ready to premier at the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), starting from September 4, 2008.

The film has been selected for the “contemporary world cinema premiere” slot of TIFF, closing on September 13.

The directorial debut of actor Nandita Das deals with the impact of violence on human psyche and relationships.

The film includes the star cast Nasseruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Dipti Naval, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Suri, Tisca Chopra, Shahana Goswami and Nowaz.
