New Delhi, Nov 4 : Lamenting that they could not find even 12 good children's films made in India to make up an Indian section in the children's film festival, actor and now the chairperson of the Children's Film Society (CFSI) Nandita Das said that not many filmmakers are interested in making movies for children.

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30 : Actress Nandita Das, the newly appointed chairperson of the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), promises to bring maximum number of kids to the children film festival, starting Nov 14, despite the fact that kids are hooked to reality shows.

"My top priority at this moment is to attract large number of children from different regions and classes to the children's film festival," Nandita Das told reporters here while speaking on the sidelines of the programme "Joy of Giving".

The six-day Golden Elephant International Children's Film Festival of India will be held in Hyderabad.

New Delhi, July 31 : Film actress-cum-director Nandita Das has been appointed as Chairperson of the Children''s Films Society of India (CFSI).

Her appointment will be for a period of three years or until further orders whichever is earlier.

The position of CFSI chairperson had fallen vacant when incumbent Nafisa Ali resigned to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket. (ANI)

Actor-director Nandita Das' directorial debut ‘Firaaq’, which is scheduled for release in India on March 20, will not be screened in Gujarat's multiplexes.

Gujarat-based multiplex owners association said that their dispute with the distributor over profit sharing was the main reason for not showcasing the movie in the state.

Manubhai Patel, President, All Gujarat Multiplex Association, said, “It’s not clear yet. We have not finalised profit sharing with the distributor. We have to figure out the percentage.”

Actor Nandita Das’s directorial debut Firaaq, which deals with the impact of violence on human psyche and relationships, is ready for release on March 20.

The film has bagged acclaim and awards in international film festivals.

The critically acclaimed actress, who already proved her guts with exceptional performances in ‘Fire, ‘Earth’ and ‘Bawandar’, said that she is not ambitious in any way.

Acclaimed actress Nandita Das after enthralling the audience with her power packed performances in off beat films like Earth and Fire is now ready with her directorial debut venture, a hard hitting film titled, Firaaq which is based on the infamous 2002 Gujarat riots.

At the 7th Kara Film Festival in Karachi, two Indian movies including Nandita Das’s directorial debut ‘Firaaq’ and a documentary Superman of Malegaon have won the Ciepie awards.

Bollywood, which has been an important part of ‘KaraFilm Festival’ each year since its beginning, did not attend this year’s celebrations because of Mumbai attacks. But, Nandita Das, who is famous in Pakistan for her character in ‘Ramchand Pakistani’, along with ace film maker Mahesh Bhatt, attended the festival.

Islamabad, February 15 : Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Nandita Das graced the second-last day of the KaraFilm Festival in Karachi, Pakistan.

The two of them are known to be the "oldest supporters" of the Kara festival.

Pakistani newspaper the News says in one of its reports that Das and Bhatt were welcome signs, and a massive statement of commitment from the neighbours across the border.

‘Firaaq’ will be screened at the Telluride Film Festival (TFF) in North America even before its commercial release. The film is produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC) production.

The story of the film is based on the massacre of minority community in the Gujarat riots. Large scale bloodshed happened in Gujarat, after the post Godhra incidences in which a number of people lost their property and lives.

Now, the trend is reversing itself as a number of Indian artists are giving their roles in Pakistani films and music albums. This is indicated by the Pakistani film ''Khuda Ke Liye' where an Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah played his role.

Ace Bollywood beauty Nandita Das has finished her first directorial venture ‘Firaaq,’ which stars top-notch actors including Naseerudin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Paresh Rawal, Snajay Suri and Deepti Naval.
 
About her directing experience, Nandita said that it was the most consuming and yet a nerve-racking time of my life.

Produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC), Firaaq is about a Hindu Dalit rural family who live on the Indo-Pak border. Ramchand, a seven-year-old boy, and his father accidentally cross the border and are then taken to the Kutch jail.
 

Ace Bollywood actress Nandita Das will be honoured with the high-status award of ‘Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres’ by the French government for her valuable contribution to the world cinema.

Besides, the versatile Indian beauty also has the option to choose any French personality for the felicitation.

Nandita said, “And there’re so many people I want to get the award from. To me, Paris is like Kolkata, the cultural nerve-center of the country.”

Nandita is the second Bollywood celebrity after King Khan who has been honoured with the award at the beginning of the year.
