Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said on Monday that capital restructuring of the state-owned United Bank of India (UBI) will soon be underway. The government-approved restructuring of capital will include over 80 percent reduction in paid-up equity, in an attempt to improve the monetary strictures of the bank.

New Delhi, Mar 30: India condemned the deadly terror attack on a police training centre in Lahore on Monday.

Offering deepest sympathies to the people of Pakistan, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said, "We are deeply concerned and condemn the terror attack."

Talking to reporters here, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma asked Pakistan to continue dismantling the terror infrastructure on its soil.

Bhubaneswar, Mar 20 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today assured Orissa Government to provide adequate security for the smooth conduct of polls in the State.

After reviewing the internal security situation here, Chidambaram said, Orissa faced security threat from Naxalites and communal forces. It is the duty of the State Government to maintain law and order in Kandhamal district and other naxalite affected areas during elections.

New Delhi, Mar 13 : Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday submitted answers to the 30 questions forwarded by Pakistan on the Mumbai attack to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"India's reply to Pakistan's 30 queries is comprehensive and now it is up to Pakistan to prove its intent by acting on the details," Chidambaram said.

New Delhi, Mar. 3 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday condemned the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, blaming "hopelessly inadequate" security measures for the incident.

"It's a shocking incident. It's quite clear that the security for Sri Lankan cricket team is hopelessly inadequate," Chidambaram said.

New Delhi, Feb 25 : Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday said that though attempts of infiltration by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) cannot be ruled out, the country''s security mechanism is prepared to act upon any smallest intelligence in this regard.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Chidambaram said despite looming concerns of agencies attempting to infiltrate terror related activities into Indian territory, India has intimated all the State Governments to get their acts together.
