Kohlschreiber steers towards more German success in Vienna

Vienna - Philipp Kohlschreiber began lining up a possible second straight year of German success at the Bank Austria Trophy with a defeat of Spain's Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 6-4 for a semi-final spot Friday.
The number 24 won his sixth match at the tournament to duplicate his showing of a year ago, when he reached the last four at the Stadthalle before losing to Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Compatriot Philipp Petzschner went on to win the 2008 title.

Beijing - Nikolay Davydenko came down hard on German Philipp Kohlschreiber Wednesday at the China Open, bringing home a crushing 6-1, 6-0 win in less than a hour as the Russian followed up on a weekend title in Malaysia.
Fourth seed Davydenko, winner in Kuala Lumpir on Sunday, was untouchable in victory, breaking the 22nd-ranked Kohlschreiber six times to reach the quarter-finals.

Marbella, Spain - Philipp Kohlschreiber rescued German hopes on Friday's opening day of the Davis Cup World Group quarter-final against holders Spain, levelling the tie at 1-1 with a straight-sets defeat of Tommy Robredo.
Kohlschreiber's 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win left Germany level-pegging after Fernando Verdasco got off on a tear for the hosts to defeat debutant Andreas Beck 6-0, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-1, taking the first set in 22 minutes.

Paris - German Philipp Kohlschreiber stunned fourth seed Novak Djokovic, sending the Serb to a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 third-round defeat Saturday at the French Open.
Djokovic, a semi-finalist at the last two editions and 2008 Australian Open winner, was outplayed from the start by the hard-hitting German ranked 31st. (dpa)

Dusseldorf, Germany - Philip Kohlschreiber battled for more than two hours Wednesday to lift Germany to a perfect 2-0 record at the ARAG World Team Championships with his 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3 comeback win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The Frenchman who played the 2008 Australian Open final at the eight-nation event was unable to consolidate after claiming the opening set in 57 minutes at the Rochusclub, his behind-the-back winner early in the contest eventually going for nought.
