130 Malaysian Indians to attend diaspora meet

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 4 : A 130-member Malaysian delegation will attend the 8th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi later this week. Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu will lead the contingent.
While Vellu and his party belong to the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN), there is little likelihood of leaders of the opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat (PR) attending the conclave this year, The Star said Monday.
It noted that PR constituents, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP), attended the conclave last year.
Samy Vellu asks Malaysian Indian leaders to prove critics wrong

Kuala Lumpur, Nov. 16 : Malaysian Indian Congress President S. Samy Vellu has urged party leaders to go to the ground to resolve the Indian community’s problems in order to prove critics wrong.
“The MIC is constantly being blamed for many of the short-comings in our society. I call upon all of you here to prove those who have been criticising us wrong,” The Star Online quoted Samy Vellu, as saying.
Samy Vellu disappointed with caste politics reports within MIC

Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 26 : Malaysian Indian Congress chief S. Samy Vellu has expressed disappointment over reports that many top party leaders are indulging in caste politics in the wake of election for top party posts.
On the list could be former deputy president S. Subramaniam, who is going for the number two position, and his challenger and former vice-president, S. Sothinathan.
The New Strait Times quoted Samy Vellu, as saying that the party is investigating certain party leaders for alleged involvement in caste politics.
MIC chief says government funding for Indian community is a must

Samy Vellu has criticised people who have objected or sent feelers to the government not to disburse the annual allocation of RM300 million sought by the party to improve Indian-owned equity.
Expressing his anger over the move, Vellu said that the money was not being allocated to the MIC per say, but for the betterment of the Indian community.
"The allocation should be disbursed by ministries, agencies, departments or banks appointed by the government. The MIC will not be getting the money. It will go straight to deserving Indians," the New Strait Times quoted Vellu, as saying.
Malaysian Indian Minister Samy Vellu to meet with Indian leadership

Chennai, Jan. 8: Malaysian Works Minister S Samy Vellu will meet Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to explain the real situation concerning the Indian community in Malaysia.
Vellu, who is also the president of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), said he would also meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during a visit to Chennai in view of the negative publicity arising from the November 25 street demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur by a group of Indian Malaysians.
