New Delhi, Oct 4 : Refusing to comment on social activist Anna Hazare''s views, Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid on Tuesday said he will not comment on anybody''s view about what would happen in the next election.
Talking to reporters here, Khurshid said: " I will not comment on anybody''s views about what is going to happen in the next elections. Every citizen is free to vote. We will only perform our duties."

New Delhi, Sep 26 : Commenting on the note sent by the Finance Ministry to the Prime Minister''s Office (PMO) on 2G spectrum, Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid on Monday said it was just a summary by a junior official and not a cause for concern.
Talking to reporters here, Khurshid said: "I have seen the note. I don''t think there is any such big issue in it for which we should express concern."

"They were called by the minister," an aide to the fasting Anna Hazare told IANS.

New Delhi, Aug 23 : Reiterating that there was no disagreement that corruption needed to be tackled, union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid Tuesday defended the government's Lokpal (ombudsman) bill and said it was "very strong".
As Anna Hazare's fast against the government's version of the Lokpal bill entered the eighth day and parliament was adjourned on the issue, Khurshid said: "The government's Lokpal bill is not weak, it is very strong. I have said that again and again and for many points the credit goes to Team Anna."

New Delhi, Aug 22 : With Anna Hazare's fast demanding a strong Lokpal entered the seventh day today, Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid has said that there should be a dialogue between the government and civil society representatives to find out a solution that is mutually acceptable by all sections.
"There should be dialogue between the two sides (government and civil society). A solution that is mutually acceptable by all sections must be found to this row," Khurshid told media here.

New Delhi, Dec 21 : Doubtful about implementing the minorities commission recommendations, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurhseed Monday said the government was considering quota for backward classes among Muslims within the existing 27 percent reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC).
However, striking a cautious note, Khursheed said the report by the National Commission on Religious and Linguistic Minorities, which was tabled in parliament last week, cannot be "rejected outrightly".

Voluntary corporate governance guidelines by year-end

New Delhi, Nov 30 : The government would issue guidelines on corporate governance by December-end and they would be voluntary for the first year, Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said Monday.
The guidelines would become mandatory after a year post-discussions and to some extent, would borrow from a set of recommendations by a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) task force, which was released Monday, the minister said.
"We want to do it by end of December. Not everything is going to be mandatory," Khurshid said after unveiling the report here.

Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Thursday said the Capital’s Jamia Millia Islamia deserved to be a university with a minority character and his colleague Kapil Sibal, the human resource minister, did not have a stand to the contrary, as many Muslims think.
“Let me clear this misgiving. I am convinced Sibal has no such position on Jamia. In fact, he is of the view that those fighting for Jamia’s minority status should immediately approach high court and diligently explore all options,” said Khurshid at a meeting of a dozen MPs and Muslim leaders from Delhi.

New Delhi, Nov 26 : Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid Thursday said his ministry had granted no special favours to Mahindra Sataym in giving it extra time to state its book of accounts.
"No special favour is being shown to anyone. No rigidity will be shown either. I think the best that can be done for the stakeholders is being done by them. Whatever assistance they have asked, we have given," Khurshid told reporters here.

New Delhi, Nov 17 : High salaries in the corporate sector is not a "dogmatic" or an ideological issue with the government, according to Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Salman Khurshid.
"We do believe in essential freedom in a democracy. The ultimate decision on managerial remuneration should rest with the shareholders," said Khurshid at a conference on the Company Bill 2009 here Tuesday.

New Delhi, Nov 6 : The Congress party Friday said 'Vande Mataram', around which a controversy has arisen after a Muslim clerics organisation endorsed a fatwa (decree) against it, should be respected by all Indians.
A day after Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid hit out at Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind which asked Muslims not to recite "Vande Mataram", Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said endorsement of the fatwa against 'Vande Mataram' is the view only of "some organisations" and "not the opinion of the whole community".

Senior Congress leader and Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid joined issue with Deoband clerics by criticising the fatwa (advisory by clerics) against the singing of Vande Mataram.
A gathering of about 10,000 Muslim clerics organised by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, had on Tuesday reaffirmed that members of the community could not sing the national song as it is un-Islamic.
Parliament to mull over shareholders deciding executive pay

Hyderabad, Nov 5 : Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid Thursday said a proposal to allow shareholders decide the salaries of company executives was before parliament.
In an interaction with reporters on the sidelines of the 37th national convention of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) here, Khurshid said the proposal was before the parliamentary standing committee, though it has not been included in the Companies Bill 2009.
"As of now, the proposal is that shareholders will decide the pay. In which manner the shareholders will decide is something the legislation will provide," the minister said.

Hyderabad, Nov 5 : Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Thursday criticised the endorsement of a fatwa against the singing of "Vande mataram" by Muslims, saying some people were trying to create problems by raising the issue again.
"Does this country not have enough problems that some people want to create more problems? I don't know why this issue is being reopened," he told reporters here.
The clerics' body Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind at its national convention at Deoband this week had endorsed an earlier fatwa issued by Islamic seminary Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband.
