The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has, in a welcome decision, taken Sourav Ganguly on board of its Technical Committee, thereby indicating that retiring from Test cricket or ODI was not the end of the road for his links with cricket.
Members of the media community of Kolkata arranged a function on Sunday to honor cricketer Sourav Ganguly. Sourav has decided to take retirement from the international cricket after the conclusion of the India-Australia Test series, completing his 13-year cricket career.
Journalists across the city gathered here and honoured his contribution to the Indian cricket. They asked him to lead young cricketers from the state to glorify the name of West Bengal.
Sourav's wife Dona and daughter Sana were also present at the function.
Kolkata, Nov 6 : As former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly plays his last test, fans at his hometown in Kolkata express dismay over his decision to retire.
The 36-year-old, left-handed batsman, Ganguly had announced at the start of the India-Australia series that it would be his last.
He was named in the squad for the first two tests despite being dropped for a premier domestic game, seen as a selection match, following a poor series in Sri Lanka in August.
Mohinder Amarnath has joined the Bengal Ranji federation as a consultant on Monday. He is a former test player who played various national and international matches. He praised the players of West Bengal for their hard work and dedication after assuming the charge of consultancy.
He said that Sourav Ganguly is a competent player for upcoming national and international series. He strongly advocated the entry of Ganguly in the forthcoming home series between India and Australia. He termed him as a hardworking and brilliant player of the country. He stressed that the Indians will have to do a lot of handwork to win the match against Australia.

The flamboyant southpaw known to be a run greedy batsman was seen collecting cheques for the people of Bihar, who have been forced to lead a life of refugees owing to ravaging floods.
He, along with popular Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, was taking part in a programme organised on Saturday in Siliguri to collect funds for flood victims.
Kolkata, Sep 2 : Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly said if the Nano project at Singur went elsewhere, West Bengal would become a dark spot and called for support to the cause of the TATAs and industry to create a future for the people of the State.
“The starting of the Nano project will be a beginning of an era in West Bengal which will completely revolutionalise the prospect of the state and the future of the youth of our state,” Ganguly said.
