Washington, Aug. 28 : Former US Senator Ted Kennedy had many foreign-policy achievements to his credit, and one of them was his role in helping to create the new state of Bangladesh in 1971.
In 1971, the Pakistan Government, with the support of the Nixon administration, sent troops into what was then called East Pakistan, in order to contain a secessionist movement. This created a massive refugee crisis as millions streamed across the border to India.
Although the situation got little coverage in the United States, Kennedy, who had a lifelong interest in refugee issues and was eyeing a run against Nixon, traveled to inspect the situation:

Washington, Aug. 27 : Senator Ted Kennedy's autobiography, "True Compass," will hit shelves next month, but the talking point is the publisher, who has announced a 1,000 price tag for a limited number of pre-signed books.
According to Politico, standard editions of "True Compass" will sell for 35 dollars and will hit stores on September 14.

Washington - US senator Ted Kennedy will be buried at Arlington National Cemetary, the resting place of his two fallen brothers, CNN reported Wednesday.
Kennedy will be buried not far from the grave sites of former president John F Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, and Robert Kennedy, who suffered the same fate while running for the White House in 1968.
Ted Kennedy died late Tuesday at the age of 77 after battling brain cancer for more than a year. President Barack Obama, former colleagues and leaders around the world have paid tribute to Kennedy since learning of his death.

Pretoria - South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party Wednesday mourned the death of US Senator Ted Kennedy and hailed him as a champion in the battle against apartheid.
In a statement, the ANC said "Kennedy was among leaders who championed the opposition against the apartheid regime in South Africa."
Kennedy visited South Africa in 1985 and drew attention to apartheid through the American television crews that followed him, the ANC noted. The US senator visited slums and resettlement areas despite his trip being denounced by the then apartheid regime.

Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group (USA), has paid in advances for his yet untitled autobiography.
Ted Kennedy, the veteran Massachusetts Democrat who is battling brain cancer, was paid the huge sum part of an author's advance for a new autobiography, according to financial disclosure reports made public on Friday.

Washington, May 20 : Senator Ted Kennedy's cancer is in remission, and he will be returning to the Senate after the Memorial Day recess, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters here on Tuesday.
Reid indicated that he had spoken recently with Kennedy's wife to discuss his condition. Asked by a reporter if the brain cancer was in remission, Reid said: "As far as I know it is, yes."
Kennedy still has to undergo a few more treatments before returning to a full Senate schedule.

Boston (US), Feb. 21 : Rumors are doing the rounds that a very sick Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy may pass on his political baton to wife Vicki, as he continues to battle with brain cancer.
Kennedy's friends say that his battle with brain cancer has entered its final rounds, and that he is presently at an undisclosed location in Florida, resting and sailing.
"He's someplace sunny, near the water, where he can rest and sail. Time is of the essence. It's very sad," the Boston Globe quoted one of his friends, as saying.

Washington - Veteran Democratic Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, one of the country's most famous politicians and champions of the poor, was in hospital Saturday after suffering a seizure, but was conscious and talking by day's end.
The symptoms were originally reported to be those of a stroke, but Kennedy spokeswoman Melissa Wagoner said in a statement that it was a seizure.

Now, he has gone one step forward, and said that she wouldn't make a good vice-president because the job requires "real leadership."
"I don't think it's possible. And I think if we had real leadership - as we do with Barack Obama - in the number-two spot as well, it'd be enormously helpful," The New York Daily News quoted him, as saying.
A Kennedy spokesman later clarified that Kennedy thinks Clinton is "more than qualified" to be Vice President.
