Banaskantha (Gujarat), Apr 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Congress was not interested in development of the country.

“The Congress is not interested in development issues. They just want to remain in power for which they indulge in vote bank politics,” Modi said while addressing an election rally here.

Modi further said that he has a magic medicine to solve all problems of the people of the State.

Bhopal, Apr 20: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would cross the magic figure of 272 in the general elections.

“Not only would the NDA get a majority on its own, the BJP would also emerge as the single largest party,” Swaraj said at a press conference here.

When asked to specify the number of seats that the BJP was likely to win, Swaraj said that her party would win anything between 180 to
200 seats on its own.

Shimla/Jangipura, Apr 19 : The Congress party has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for indulging in a low level of discourse during the election campaign.

"There can be disagreements between political parties and political leaders. During the election campaign, there is a debate and discussion but that should be within the parameters of civilised dialogue. Unfortunately, that dignity has been violated and the campaign has been dragged to a low level of discourse by the BJP," claimed Anand Sharma, Congress leader and Minister of State for External Affairs.

Basti/Mangaldoi (Assam), Apr 19 : The Congress party is facing attacks from both the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a rally in Basti of Uttar Pradesh, BSP president Mayawati blamed Congress leaders for wooing low-castes and poor with fake promises.

Without naming Congress party general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who had visited poor and downtrodden in the past, Mayawati said dining and sleeping with low-castes would not wipe out their poverty and unemployment.

Mumbai, Apr 17 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani on Friday uttered the name ‘Obama bin Laden’ instead of ‘Osama bin Laden’.

Addressing a press conference here, Advani said the US has realized that even Al-Qaeda Chief Obama Bin Laden could have his secret funds in Swiss banks for terrorist activities.

“After 9/11 terror attacks, the United States has realized that not just the buccaneers in business but even Obama Bin Laden could also hide his funds in secret havens and use them to bomb the world,” Advani slips tongue calling Osama Obama Bin Laden.

The Supreme Court has ordered the release of BJP candidate Varun Gandhi, the grandson of ex-India PM Indira Gandhi, on parole for two weeks. He was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) for his communally-offensive comments against Muslims at the March 6 and March 8 rallies in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

Though the coverage of Varun Gandhi's inflammatory speeches were extensively broadcast on Indian television, he said that the recordings were "doctored." However, the Election Commission was convinced that coverage had "not been tampered with, doctored or morphed."
