Polycom unveils its RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite

Polycom unveils its RealPresence CloudAXIS SuiteExpanding its RealPresence video platform with cloud solution, Cisco's videoconferencing rival Polycom has expressed the hope that its RealPresence CloudAXIS rollout will give it a leading edge in the cloud-based products' market.

Noting that the market is apparently set to be worth $12 billion by 2015, Polycom said in a Monday statement that the RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite will essentially address the problems related to "interoperability issues and inconsistent user experiences," which prevent video from being taken up massively.

Elaborating that its RealPresence video platform with cloud solution will be effective in resolving the mentioned issues, Polycom said that the platform will give the customers the advantage of using merely a hyperlink to add, at any particular point of time, anybody using video applications - like Skype, Facebook, Google Talk and others - to their video conferences from a browser.

About the CloudAXIS advantage, Jim Kruger - Polycom's SVP of global solutions marketing - said that upon the initiation of a call by the host, the chat window of the invited video-application users shows a hyperlink in their app; and one single click puts them into the video conference through their browser.

With Kruger stating that CloudAXIS is "all browser-based," and there are "no firewall problems," Polycom said that the scheduled timeline for the availability of the product to service providers and big businesses is by the end of 2013 first quarter; though a limited trial of the product is underway in the ongoing quarter.
