Washington, Feb. 5: Libyan Al Qaeda commander Abu Laith Al-Libi, who was reportedly killed in a missile attack in North Waziristan last week, is said to have enjoyed unrestricted movement in and around Peshawar.

A Washington Post report on Monday claimed that Al –Libi openly met a Libyan diplomat in Peshawar with the help of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz politician Javed Ibrahim Paracha.

Paracha told a Post reporter, “I knew Abu Laith for quite some time,” calling the Libyan “a good and pious Muslim” who had frequently visited hospitals in Peshawar and the nearby city of Bannu to check on foreign fighters who had been wounded fighting alongside the Taliban and other militant groups.

A Pakistani prison official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed some details of Paracha’s account of the gathering and said it occurred at least 18 months ago.

Libi’s activities in Pakistan, notes the report, had been a “particularly sore point” between the United States and the Musharraf government.

The identities of the other people killed in the missile strike last week are unknown.

Pakistani officials said they have had difficulty gaining access to the scene, but residents have said local Taliban commanders pulled the bodies out of the rubble.

Neither Pakistani officials nor the US have publicly asserted responsibility for the attack. (ANI)
