Rashid clinches Western India Amateur title

Rashid clinches Western India Amateur titlePune, Nov 27 : Rashid Khan once again came good on the final day to win the LG Western India Amateur title in a comfortable fashion. In the final round Friday, at the Par-71 Poona Club Golf Course Rashid shot a round of even-par 71, and with a tournament total of one-under 283, the Delhi player won by a margin of five shots.

Rahul Bajaj could not really put the pressure on the eventual winner and had to be content with a runner-up finish after he carded a round of four-over 75 to finish five shots back.

The best round of the week, however, was delivered by Saurabh Bahuguna who returned a card of five-under 66 to jump to third place with his total at ten-over 294. Gagan Verma and Chikkarangappa were one shot further back at tied fourth place while Pune's Aditya Bhandarkar slipped to sixth place with a round of 77 this day.

After receiving his trophy from the club captain, Rashid said, "It is a really good win for me because I was coming straight from Cambodia where I missed the cut in a pro tournament and that was very disappointing for me.

"The way I turned around my game in the third round yesterday was perhaps very important and from that point on I knew if I played well, I could go on to win." (IANS)
