Real thrashes Atletico 4-1 to win `La Decima` Champions League title

Real-MadridLondon, May 25 : Spanish giants Real Madrid have defeated their compatriots Atletico Madrid 4-1 in a compelling Champions League final in Lisbon on Saturday to win their tenth European Cup.

The fitness of striker Diego Costa and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was a central topic of debate in the build-up, with Costa using horse placenta as part of his treatment for a hamstring injury while Ronaldo had also been an injury doubt with the same problem.

However, the BBC reports that Carlo Ancelotti's side overcome those problems despite Diego Godin capitalising on an error from Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas to give the newly-crowned La Liga champions a first-half lead, with Sergio Ramos heading in Luka Modric's corner 90 seconds from the end of five minutes of stoppage time.

Real then ruthlessly completed the job of becoming the first club to claim the trophy 10 times, an achievement known as ' La Decima', with Gareth Bale heading in an acute angle with 11 minutes left, following which substitute Marcelo added a third.

Ronaldo then salvaged something from a disappointing personal performance, scoring his 17th goal of this Champions League campaign from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Gabi, the report added. (ANI)
