Suicide attack in Kabul injures three civilians Kabul - A suicide attack injured at least three civilians early Tuesday morning in the Bagh-e-Babar area of the Afghan capital Kabul, an Afghan official said.

"Based on the initial reports, a suicide bomber was trying to target the Afghan National Army staff bus but could not get to his target and the blast injured only civilians," said General Ali Shah Paktiawal, crime branch head at Kabul's police department.

The bomber blew himself up near the famous and historic area of the city, he said.

Taliban capture remote Afghan district

AfgahnistanKabul, July 21 : Taliban militants have reportedly captured the remote Central Afghanistan district of Ajiristan.

The News quoted Afghan interior ministry sources as saying that one police officer was killed and two others were injured during the attack.

The district lies 200 kilometres southwest of Kabul.

An interior ministry spokesman confirmed that security forces abandoned the district centre after Taliban attacked.

This is the second time that Ajiristan has been captured by Taliban insurgents since October last year.

"It is with great sorrow that we must announce this brave soldier's death as we offer our sympathies to this soldier's loved ones," ISAF spokesman British Royal Navy Captain Mike Finney said in a press release issued from ISAF headquarters in Kabul. 

"This soldier's life was taken while helping bring peace and security to Afghanistan," he added. 

Pak-trained militants rushing to join Afghanistan’s “pristine jihad”

London, July 21: Western intelligence agencies have reportedly claimed that Afghanistan was fast turning into a safe haven for foreign militants, after the fall of Iraq, as more and more young militants were getting attracted to Afghanistan to take part in a “more pristine” jihad over there.

“Iraq is seen as a defeat. The image of Afghanistan is seen as a more pristine jihad,” timesonline. com quoted Brian Glyn Williams, who researches jihadist websites for the Combating Terrorism Centre at the US military academy at West Point, as saying.
