Bangladesh premier: Mutiny was "conspiracy against democracy" Dhaka - Bangladesh's government on Thursday described last week's mutiny at the headquarters of its border guards as a plot against the nascent democracy of the South Asian country.

"It was a big conspiracy against democracy," Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed said. "It is presumed initially that the mutiny was staged to put the democratically elected government in danger and cause embarrassment for it."

Bangladesh army launches parallel probe into troop mutiny

Bangladesh-Dhaka MapDhaka - The Bangladesh army on Tuesday launched an independent probe into last week's troop mutiny, a day after the government reconstituted a civilian body for the inquiry, officials said.

A senior army officer, Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, accompanied by a number of junior officers, visited Bangladesh Rifles headquarters, where mutineers killed at least 74 people, mostly mid-ranking and junior army officers, to collect evidence related to the carnage.

China express shock over Dhaka mutiny

A statement by a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said: "As a friendly close neighbour, the Chinese side hopes Bangladesh enjoy political stability, economic development and social harmony."

Conveying sympathies to the family members, the statement also said, "We hope and believe that with the joint efforts of Bangladesh government and people, Bangladesh can maintain peace, stability and solidarity."

Pakistan denies involvement in Bangladesh mutiney

Bangladesh and PakistanIslamabad  - Pakistan on Monday denied an Indian newspaper report claiming its military intelligence was linked to the bloody mutiny in Dhaka by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) last week.

On Sunday, the Times of India citing unnamed sources, said arrested mutineers had "thrown up the name" of senior Bangladeshi businessman and politician, Salauddin Qadeer Chowdhury - who is close to Pakistan's "military intelligence complex" and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The newspaper also reported that the mutineers had received around 140,000 dollars to finance their revolt.

Slain Bangladeshi army soldiers buried in mass funeral

Members of the bereaved families, politicians, army officers and others joined the funeral and a memorial parade before the bodies of 49 members of Bangladesh Army and a wife of an officer were laid to rest amid full state honour.

President Zillur Rahman, who attended the prayer session at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka, paid floral respect on behalf of the nation to the slain officers' coffins wrapped in Bangladesh national and army flags.

Funeral of 48 Bangladesh Army officers held

Funeral of 48 Bangladesh Army officers heldDhaka, Mar 2 : The funeral or the Namaz-e-janaza of the 48 Bangladesh army officers, whose bodies were found during a rescue operation at the Bangladesh Rifles
(BDR) headquarters, was held at the National Parade Square on Monday.

Forty-two of them were laid to rest at about 1:00pm at the military graveyard at Banani with state honour while the bodies of eight others were sent to their village homes for burial.
