Brussels - The European Union is preparing to implement a tougher United Nations sanctions against Iran despite ongoing efforts at resolving the nuclear conflict with the Middle Eastern country, said EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Tuesday.
"The EU has a responsibility to implement resolution 1803 of the UN Security Council," Solana said after talks with EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
Brussels - Direct contacts with the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas would not take place until the group recognizes Israel's right to exist, Mideast Quartet representative and former British prime minister Tony Blair said on Tuesday in Brussels.

Brussels - European Union officials Tuesday welcomed the arrest of fugitive Serbian war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, a development which could pave the way for closer EU-Belgrade ties.
EU foreign policy commissioner Javier Solana, speaking on the periphery of an EU foreign ministers' meeting, said "today I want to congratulate the Serbian government. It is a good day for the Balkans."
He said he believed Belgrade was cooperating "fully" with the international war crimes tribunal.
