Tehran will look for other partners, Iran warns Austrian OMV

Nicosia, Sept 13:Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari on Friday has given a stern warning to Austrian energy firm OMV that unless it signs a deal on the Nabucco gas pipeline soon, Tehran will look for other partners.

The aim of the Nabucco pipeline is to transport at least 30 billion meters of natural gas per year from the Caspian Sea to Europe, bypassing Russia. OMV, the giant energy firm of Austria, is one of the six Nabucco partners.

Cypriot leaders meet to discuss power-sharing for divided island

CyprusAthens/Nicosia - Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders are meeting on Thursday to discuss power-sharing and governance in a new round of peace talks set on ending a decades old conflict and reunite the divided Mediterranean island.

Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias and Turkihs Cypriot leader Mehemt Ali Talat launched a new round of peace talks on September 3.

Peace talks have been deadlocked after former president Tassos Papadopoulos led the Greek-Cypriot rejection of a UN reunification plan in a 2004 referendum.

Turkish Cypriots had overwhelmingly voted in favour.

Nicosia - Cypriot leaders launched a new round of peace talks on Wednesday after years of stalemate aimed at ending a decades-old conflict and reuniting the divided eastern Mediterranean island.

Greek Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat met in the UN buffer zone dividing the capital Nicosia and will hold talks in the presence of newly appointed UN envoy for Cyprus, former Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer.

The two leaders of the ethnically divided island agreed in July to relaunch fully fledged peace negotiations on September
3, ending a four-year deadlock in efforts to bring the two communities together.

The launch of the talks on Wednesday will be in the presence of newly appointed UN envoy for Cyprus, former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

The two leaders of the ethnically-divided island agreed in July to re-launch full-fledged peace negotiations on September 3, ending a four-year deadlock in efforts to bring the two communities together.

Plateau may be ancient gateway in Cyprus

Cyprus parliament approves Lisbon TreatyWashington, September 1 : New research has suggested that a fortified settlement with a shrine that stood on a plateau near the eastern Larnaca coast in Cyprus, could have been the original gateway to Pyla, a village located in the eastern part of the island.

According to a report in Cyprus Weekly, earlier theories about the significance of the site at Larnaca coast were confirmed during this year’s fieldwork at the Pyla-Koutsopetria locality by the identification of a section of the wall, datable to the Late Bronze Age.

Bahrain plans to invest 13 billion dollar in oil and gas sector

Nicosia, Aug 29: Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, the Chairman of Bahrain’s National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), has said that in the coming 20 years Bahrain will spend about 13 billion dollar in the oil and gas industry.

NOGA expects that of this amount up to eight billion dollar will be spend on oil and gas exploration, development and production.

The remaining amount of five billion dollar will be invested on the upgrading and modernization of the Bahrain refinery, including the construction of a new unit at a cost of one billion dollar.

There is also a plan to increase kerosene and diesel output by eleven per cent and to modernize existing units, which if everything goes according to plans will be reduced from five to two or three.
