Sonia GandhiPanipat (Haryana), Oct 2 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said that terrorists want to end social unity and brotherhood.

She was speaking at a rally at Panipat in Haryana on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi''s birth anniversary.

Sonia Gandhi said that the designs of terrorists would not succeed and also warned those who were trying to gain political mileage out of the issue.

“Such people are enemies of society and the country, Sonia Gandhi said, and added, “This is a national problem and everybody should come together to fight it.”

FM expresses hope of lifting ban on export of non-basmati rice

P ChidambaramNew Delhi, Sept 22 : With prospects of good kharif output, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday expressed hope that the ban on export of non-basmati rice, which was imposed as a temporary measure, would be lifted soon.

Chidambaram said this after inaugurating new facility of rice exporting firm Tilda Riceland in Gurgaon in Haryana today.

The government had banned export of non-basmati rice in April as part of initiatives to check rising inflation that touched the 13-year high mark of about 12 per cent.

Agriculture Leadership Awards announced

New Delhi, Sept 12 : The names for the National Agriculture Leadership Awards have been announced for this year by the National Committee which functions under the Chairmanship of Haryana Governor A. R. Kidwai.

The Life Time Achievement Award for this year went to three outstanding personalities for having served the Indian agriculture system for over four decades each, which positively impacted the growth in India''s farm sector, created newer opportunities and contributed to overall rural prosperity. They are Dr. V. Kurien, Dr. K. L. Chadda, and Dr. R. S. Paroda.

Hooda advises media to be balanced, develop and promote national consciousness

Gurgaon, Sept. 7 : Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh HoodaHaryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday called on the media to actively develop and promote a feeling of national consciousness, adding that its role in nation-building could never be underestimated. He also said that there was a need for the media to be seen as a balanced medium of opinion generation on issues of national import.

Hooda also announced a donation of Rs. 25 lakh to the National Media Centre in Gurgaon, as contribution for development of its institutional complex.

Govt. to set up ex-servicemen commission soon

A K AntonyRewari (Haryana), August 29 : Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Friday said that the government would soon set up an Ex-Servicemen Commission to address the grievances of armed forces veterans and plan welfare schemes for them.

“After opening a new department in the Defence Ministry for ex-servicemen, the government is going to set up an Ex-Servicemen Commission soon to recommend various welfare schemes for them and their families,” Antony said, during the inauguration function of a Sainik School at Thappa Gothra Khori village near Rewari in Haryana.
