Dharamsala - Amid growing anger among Tibetan exiles at China's subjugation of Tibet and its monasteries, bitter memories of a failed armed struggle haunt former guerrilla fighter Lhasang Tsering.

Over five decades, the Tibetan movement has drawn international attention and support for being among the world's rare non-violent struggles, which has been credited to the Dalai Lama's "middle way" approach, which stresses conciliatory negotiations with China.

Although the policy has made little headway with Beijing, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in
1989 for leading Tibet's non-violent struggle.

New wave of violence might grip Tibet, premier warns

Dharamsala, India - Tibet faces a new wave of violence, warned Samdhong Rinpoche, prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile, who worried that Tibetans might be targeted by Chinese forces as the Asian giant seeks to deflect attention from the economic hardships the global economic turmoil is bringing upon its people.

Although the Tibetan government adheres to its "middle way" approach, which renounces independence in favour of greater autonomy within China, Rinpoche, also known as the "Precious One," admitted that the policy was unlikely to succeed with the Chinese leadership.

BMC, criticized by various social groups for its rough attitude in baby kidnap case

The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited wrath of various social groups for its behavior in the Sion hospital baby kidnap case. Initially BMC said that it would pay 5 lakh compensation to Chembur residents Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar, whose three-day-old baby was kidnapped from the Sion Hospital on January 1. But on Friday, it told the court that it would pay no compensation to the couple at this stage.

Mihir Desai of India Centre for Human Rights and Law said: "The incident shows that the BMC is completely brazen. There is no ambiguity about the fact that the child went missing and that the incident occurred within the hospital premises.''

CPI (M) releases its first list of candidates for LS polls

CPI (M)New Delhi, Mar. 8 : The CPI (M) has released its first list of 59 candidates in 16 states for the coming Lok Sabha elections. The list, which includes 17 sitting MPs, features only three women.

CPI (M) will announce the candidates for Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Lakshadweep in its second list, as seat sharing talks with allies in the states are still on.

"This is for the first time that the party is contesting from Lakshadweep," CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters after the two-day party Central Committee meeting on Sunday.

Rajnath Singh regrets BJP-BJD alliance breakdown

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Rajnath SinghNew Delhi, Mar 8 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Rajnath Singh on Sunday, expressed his regret over Biju Janata Dal (BJP) supremo Naveen Patnaik''s decision to discontinue the 11-year-old alliance between both parties.

In an interview to Times Now, Singh said, "I feel it is unfortunate. We could not ever imagine that the BJP-BJD alliance will break down."

"I am shocked at the decision... Naveen Patnaik never indicated his dissatisfaction with the alliance," he added.
