Lucknow, Feb 29 : Shi'ites in Lucknow observed the Chehlum festival to mark the end of the mourning period for Imam Hussein and other martyrs of the Battle of Karbala.
Maulana Kalbe Jawad a Shi'ite leader said that even 1400 years after the tragedy, Shi'ites observe the Chehlum ceremony with solemnity.
Security was tight during the procession, which stopped at various places to allow the devout to observe it with traditional fervour.
New Delhi, Feb 26: A farmers’ delegation led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader M S Tikait on Wednesday met with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and submitted a memorandum of demands to him.
The delegation held discussions with Pawar on wide-ranging issues, including the need to provide loans at low interest and to reduce the unit area for crop insurance purposes.
During his meeting with the delegation, Pawar expressed the Centre’s commitment to protect their interests in World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations.
Raniyan Sector (Indo-Pak border), Feb 27 : The erection of double fencing along the India-Pakistan border in Chugawn Block of Punjab is preventing farmers of the area from cultivating and harvesting their own land.
Earlier, the zig-zag fencing along the border and the restriction of movement by the Border Security force posed problems to farmers, but now they feel double fencing will force them to migrate to other places.
