Islamabad, Sept. 13: Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that his government can and will take up the issue of unilateral American missile strikes with the Bush administration, but ruled out the possibility of engaging the United States in a war.

"We can take up the matter of unilateral strikes in Pakistan at diplomatic level, but cannot wage war," Gilani told newsmen at Prime Minister Secretariat on Friday after inaugurating the country's first plant for manufacturing of auto disposable syringes.

Islamabad, Sep 13: Pakistan faces the potential danger of a schism in the army as there is a growing anti-American sentiment largely fuelled by the indiscriminate missile attacks and cross-border incursions.

The Pakistani military’s top brass finished a two-day summit on Friday that was called to consider how to respond to the US incursions in Tribal Areas bordering Afghanistan.

Army chief General Ashfaq Kayani issued a strong statement before the meeting, calling the ground assault “reckless.”

Nawabshah, Sep 13: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that democracy has been restored completely in Pakistan and Benazir Bhutto’s mission has been completed.

Talking to parliamentarians and officials from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) at the VIP Lounge of the Nawabshah Airport, Zardari said the PPP did not believe in “politics of revenge” and had tried to bring together all political parties in the country.

The president said Nawabshah had been ignored during the last 11 years due to political opposition and pledged a development package for the district.

Islamabad - Clashes in Pakistan's lawless tribal areas along the Afghan border on Friday left at least 40 rebels and two soldiers dead, officials said.

Thousands of troops - backed by gunship helicopters, tanks and artillery fire - targeted several militant position in the Tang Khata, Rashkai and Khazana areas of Bajaur tribal district, a known sanctuary of Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters, who launch cross-border attacks on the US-led international forces in Afghanistan.

CBS quoted a senior Pakistani intelligence official as saying that Friday morning''s attack took place near Miran Shah, a town in North Waziristan, which is the capital of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Islamabad, Sep 12 : President Asif Ali Zardari is hopeful that the two pending disputes with India — Siachen and Sir Creek — will be resolved very soon and an atmosphere of trust will be created in which India and Pakistan will try to achieve a breakthrough to resolve the Kashmir dispute.

President Zardari assured that his government will not depend on secret diplomacy, The News reported.
