 Gunmen fail to assassinate Afghan governorJalalabad (Afghanistan), Oct. 26 : Gunmen failed to assassinate the Governor of Afghanistan''s Nangarhar Province, Gul Agha Sherzai, on Monday.

A former cabinet minister and former governor of Kandahar province, Sherzai was attacked by two gunmen armed with AK-47 machine guns and hand grenades at an information technology conference near the governor''s office in Jalalabad, said a provincial government spokesman.

One of the attackers was killed in the ensuing encounter with security men. The second attacker has been captured.

Sukhbir Badal demands Centre to declare Punjab Special Agro ZoneJalalabad, Aug 31 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has demanded the Central Government to declare Punjab as Special Agricultural Zone (SAZ) on the lines of Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

Punjab having 1.3 per cent geographical area of the country was contributing 70 per cent wheat and 40 per cent rice in the national pool.

Two Indians among 6 killed in attack on Jalalabad Indian Consulate

Lahore, July 10: The Taliban reportedly carried out an attack on the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, in the wee hours of morning, killing six persons, including two Indians, and injuring eight others, reported the Daily Times.

A Pakistan TV channel quoted Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid as saying that his men attacked the Indian Consulate with bombs.

According to the channel, the injured also include Indian nationals and Afghan security personnel.

This was the second attack targeted at Indians. On Monday, a suicide bomber had blown up his car right in front of the Indian embassy gates in Kabul. (ANI)
