Glock starts from back after penalty
Submitted by Sahil Nagpal on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 09:00.Nuerburg, Germany - Toyota's Timo Glock will start from the back of the grid in Sunday's German Formula One Grand Prix after stewards Saturday imposed a penalty for a training incident.
Glock was penalized three places but effectively moves from 19th to 20th and last in the starting line-up for the race at the Nuerburgring.
Stewards ruled that the German hindered Renault driver Fernando Alonso of Spain in the first of the qualifying rounds. The decision means that Sebastien Bourdais of France in a Toro Rosso moves up one place to 19th. (dpa)
Webber claims first career pole at German GP

Nuerburg, Germany - Mark Webber claimed his first career pole position on Saturday, in a rain-marred qualifying session for the German Formula One Grand Prix.
The Australian driver for the Red Bull team held off the Brawn GP duo of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button as well as his teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Webber clocked 1 minute 32.230 seconds for the 5.148 kilometres lap on the Nuerburgring as all teams gambled with their tyre choices. Barrichello had 1:32.357, Button 1:32.473 and Vettel 1:32.480 minutes.
Hamilton tops final German GP practice

Nuerburg, Germany - World champion Lewis Hamilton topped the final practice session for the German Formula One Grand Prix on Saturday.
Hamilton clocked 1 minute 31.121 seconds in a McLaren-Mercedes for the 5.148-kilometres lap.
Ex-champion Fernando Alonso had 1:31.340 in a Renault and Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was third in 1:31.351 minutes. Championship leader Jenson Button of Brawn GP was 11th in 1:32.009 minutes.
Qualifying was scheduled for later Saturday and the 60-lap race is on Sunday.
FIA reacts angrily to FOTA talks walkout

Nuerburg, Germany - Motorsport's ruling body, the FIA, responded angrily Thursday to a decision by the eight members of the Formula One Teams Association
(FOTA) to walk out of a meeting to discuss next year's rules for Formula One.
The meeting Wednesday of the Technical Working Group at the Nuerburgring, where the German Grand Prix takes place this weekend, was supposed to address FOTA's proposed changes to F1 rules for next year.
Ecclestone cancels planned visit to new centre at Nuerburgring

Nuerburg, Germany - Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has cancelled a planned visit Thursday to the opening of a new leisure centre at the Nuerburgring circuit ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix, the company that runs the track confirmed Tuesday.
The Nuerburgring GmBH company refused to give reasons for the cancellation, saying only that the 78-year-old had informed it of his decision in a phone call.
Ecclestone has suffered sustained criticism following comments made last Friday to The Times newspaper where he praised Adolf Hitler for his ability "to get things done."
