Isamabad, Apr. 25: When Taliban fighters entered the Buner district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) days ago, over 500 hundred security personnel stationed in the region offered absolutely no resistance.
It was not because the security personnel lacked ability or willingness to do so, but because of the fact they were ill-equipped and far less in number than the insurgents.
A senior police official stationed in Buner has admitted that the cops were no match for the mighty extremists.
Lahore, Apr. 25: Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has said that he is ready to assume charge of the country once again if the situation does not improve.
In an interview to a private television channel, Musharraf said he would not mind serving another term if he could bring on the change the nation desperately needs currently.
Musharraf said he decided to step down because he felt that if he continued to hold the post he would have been rendered an "impotent" president.
Islamabad, Apr. 25: Pakistani Taliban stopped a convoy of security forces from entering their stronghold in Swat Valley on Saturday.
A News Network International (NNI) news agency report said seven army trucks were stopped by armed Taliban at Qamabr, a small town of Mingora, the main city in the Swat Valley of North West Frontier Province.
Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said the militants feared that the security forces might launch fresh offensive.
Islamabad, Apr. 25 : Amid the unprecedented terror threat from the Taliban, Pakistan Rangers have deployed 250 more security personnel across the capital city.
According to The Daily Times, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration had asked for more security personnel to safe guard the city from any untoward situation.
Sources said that 200 more Northern Areas' scouts are ready to be deployed in the city, and would reach here shortly.
Islamabad, Apr. 25 : While the Pakistan Government may now expect international pressure on it to ease a bit following reports of the Taliban retreating from the Buner region of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), experts believe that the move is only tactical, and it is almost certain that they would come back.
