Kosovo reaffirms rejection of UN plan for EU mission

Explosive thrown at international office in Pristina Pristina - An explosive device was thrown Friday evening at the Pristina office of the internationally-appointed administrator for Kosovo, local police said.

Several cars were damaged and windows were smashed, but no one was injured in the attack, police spokesman Veton Elshani told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Kosovo insists on original plan for EU mission

Serbia, KosovoPristina - Kosovo on Wednesday again dismissed a revised plan for a European Union mission proposed by by Brussels and the United Nations, worrying that it would threaten its sovereignty over the restive Serb territory.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaci told reporters Pristina has extended a "warm welcome and invitation" to the EU mission, the Eulex, but only if it deploys as planned, "in the entire territory of Kosovo."

Kosovo medics end strike

Serbia, KosovoPristina, Kosovo  - Kosovo's medical workers agreed to end their strike Wednesday, after winning a wage increase from the government.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaci's cabinet agreed to add 44 euros (60 dollars) per month for all health system employees. An average doctor's monthly pay before the hike was 250 euros.

The government also accepted to push through health laws and continue negotiating with medical labour unions to improve the largely disregarded sector.

Medical workers went on strike Monday, demanding a 50-per-cent wage increase.

Kosovo welcomes Ahtisaari's Nobel Peace Prize

Nobel PrizePristina - Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu on Friday congratulated former Finish president Marti Ahtisaari for winning this year's Nobel Peace Prize, saying it was given to the most deserving person.

"This remarkable prize was without a doubt most deserved," local media quoted Sejdiu as saying.

US defence chief insists no Kosovo break-up

US Defense Secretary Robert GatesPristina - US Defence Secretary Robert Gates on Monday rejected a break-up of Kosovo after Serbia renewed its threat to seek secession of the former province's minority Serbs.

Gates was the first US cabinet member to visit Kosovo since it declared independence from Serbia in February.

He met Kosovo's leaders and was visiting US troops stationed in Kosovo.

"The United States supports the territorial integrity of Kosovo," he told reporters in the capital, Pristina.
