Pyongyang, Jan. 4 : The declaration of a “peace offensive” by North Korea aimed at pacifying relations with the US could lead to the resumption of six-party talks, but Pyongyang hasn’t given any indication as to whether it is willing to give up its nuclear program.

Pyongyang, Sep. 18 : North Korea’s top leader Kim Jong Il on Friday met with Chinese President Hu Jintao''s special envoy, Dai Bingguo, in Pyongyang.
According to Xinhua, Dai delivered Hu’s letter to Kim, saying, “the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have attached great importance to the relationship between China and the DPRK”
N.Korea willing to hold talks with the US

Pyongyang (North Korea), Aug. 14 : A senior North Korean diplomat has said that his country''s government is willing to hold talks with Washington.
Kim Yong-il, a vice minister in the North''s Foreign Ministry, is reported to have told reporters: "We always keep the door open to negotiations."
According to Fox News, it was the first such remark from North Korea since former President Bill Clinton’s visit to the country last week to negotiate the release of two American journalists.
Korea’s America-style fast food joint not to call burger ‘a burger’

Pyongyang, July 27 : While North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has finally allowed his countrymen to eat American fast food with the opening of country's first fast food joint in Pyongyang, the joint is careful not to call any item by American names, like burger.
On the menu is a tasty "minced beef and bread" that''s definitely not American.
North Korea suffers World Cup set-back

Pyongyang - North Korean aspirations of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup finals suffered a set-back on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Iran in an Asian Group 2 match played in Pyongyang.
Although the North Koreans managed to pull level at the top of the group with South Korea who are also on 11 points, North Korea has played two games more and has just an away fixture at third-placed Saudi Arabia remaining.
South Korea could move three points clear later Saturday with a victory at the United Arab Emirates.

N Korea threatens to launch ''war'' if its satellite are shot down

Pyongyang, Mar. 9 : North Korea has warned that it is "fully combat ready" to retaliate against any attempt to thwart off its planned satellite launch.
"Shooting our satellite for peaceful purposes will precisely mean a war," said the statement, carried by Pyongyang''s official Korean Central News Agency.
With the US and South Korea moving tens of thousands of troops along with its border, N Korea condemned the move as preparations for an invasion, the Daily Express reported.

Pyongyang, Nov. 24 : The head of Democratic People''s Republic of Korea (DPRK) delegation to the inter-Korean general-level military talks Monday announced five measures on the bilateral ties with South Korea, which include restricting and cutting off all the land passages through the Military Demarcation Line (MDL).

Pyongyang (North Korea), Oct. 11 : North Korean leader Kim Jong Il inspected a women’s army unit on Saturday.
A local newspaper reported the leader''s inspection of the battery of the Korean People''s Army (KPA) Unit 821 on the front page, with a picture of Kim watching women soldiers'' training.
According to Xinhua, Kim urged soldiers to increase their combat capabilities and was satisfied with the fact that they had fulfilled their duties "in a responsible manner with utmost vigilance to cope with the evermore undisguised moves of the enemies for aggression."
North Korea celebrates 60th anniversary

Seoul/Pyongyang - North Korea celebrated its 60th anniversary Tuesday, however, there were no reports of a military parade that was expected to be held, reported South Korean media.
While at a stalemate over its nuclear programmes, North Korea was expected to hold its largest ever military parade, in terms of number troops and military hardware, in its capital of Pyongyang, Yonhap news agency reported citing South Korean military officials.
