The ‘Grand Cross of Military Merit’ award is the highest military honour conferred by the King of Spain for distinguished service.

The award was conferred in recognition of the Pakistan Army’s contribution in the fight against terrorism.

Rawalpindi, Jan 11: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has urged the Taliban to stop suicide bombings and take the initiative of holding peace talks with the Government.

Khan said that he was in favour of dialogue with the Taliban, as the suicide attacks were resulting in death of innocent people all over the country.

“The present rulers will not take the initiative to hold dialogues with the Taliban unless they get a no-objection certificate from Washington,” The Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan further emphasized that the people were suffering from inflation and unemployment, while a lot of public money was being wasted to win a futile war that would only result in casualties and economic loss.

This is the second of four such Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircrafts to be included in the PAF’s fleet. The first one was inducted earlier this month.

Pakistan is the second country in the region after India to have inducted the state-of-art surveillance aircraft in its air force.

According to reports, the brazen raid by at least three attackers came as people gathered for Friday prayers in the Parade Lanes mosque situated near the city’s Chohar Chowk.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and all the wounded persons have been admitted to the CMH hospital.

An AFP report said that security forces had set up a secure perimeter around the site, with helicopters circling overhead and security forces preparing to enter the area to flush out any remaining militants.

Zakiur Rehman LakhviRawalpindi, Dec 3 : Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who has been named the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, on Thursday failed to get a reprieve from the Lahore High Court, which rejected his two petitions challenging his indictment in the carnage.

While disposing of the petitions, the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court directed the Anti-Terrorism Court to consider Lakhvi's objections against his indictment under provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code. The Anti-Terrorism Court had formally charged him along with six other suspects last month with involvement in the 26/11 strikes.

According to reports, Dr. Khan submitted a statement to the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench through his lawyer Ali Zafar, in which he denied interaction with any foreign journalists.
