Barack ObamaDubai, 19th Nov. 2008 -- The infamous US prison in Cuba, Guantanamo Bay, had never been a huge campaign issue for Barack Obama, the incoming US president, a UAE daily paper commented.

''It was not at least the most important issue of the campaign for the Democratic presidential candidate. There were far more serious issues like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and of course the bigger issue of current economic mess at home,'' wrote Khaleej Times in its editorial.

DP World- UAE Region to provide full scholarships at University of DubaiDubai, 19 November, 2008  - In line with its policy of supporting and encouraging UAE national students, DP World - UAE Region is providing full scholarships for Emirati students to attend the University of Dubai's College of Business or College of Information Technology.

The marine terminal operator has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Dubai that will see students pursuing majors in Accounting or Finance or pursuing majors in Computing and Information System being awarded scholarships.

"Friends of Pakistan" meets in Abu Dhabi

UAEAbu Dhabi - A high level meeting of a gathering dubbed "Friends of Pakistan" that aims to support Pakistani's stability and developmental process is to convene in Abu Dhabi on Monday, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The gathering will be under joint chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.

"The Friends of Pakistan" is comprised of 16-nations which include among others Britain, France, Germany, the United States and China plus the United Nations and the European Union. It also includes multilateral financial agencies and world bodies.

Kuwait Stock Exchange halts trading after dramatic losses

Kuwait Stock ExchangeKuwait City - ­ Kuwait halted trading in its stock exchange on Thursday after traders demanded action to stop major losses, the country's trade minister and its state news agency said.

The halt in trading came after a court order on Thursday.

Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmad Baqer told Al-Arabiya TV that trading could resume on Sunday.

The station showed footage of traders protesting at the stock exchange.
