London, November 12 : Feargal Sharkey, the former the vocalist of pop punk band The Undertones, feels that anti-terror laws are being used to crack down on live concerts.

He says that small venues and new performers have been affected by the 2003 Licensing Act.

Local councils and police go “over the top” in enforcing the Act, he adds.

The Act requires venue owners to fill in a three-page application form and pay the prescribed fee to obtain a licence for a gig.

Those filling in the forms must disclose names, birth dates, addresses, and phone numbers of every performer.

London, Nov 12 : Indonesia has launched an early warning system that uses seabed sensors, land-based seismometers and satellite positioning equipment, to broadcast tsunami warnings within minutes of an undersea earthquake.

According to a report in the Times, the system is known as the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System, and has been built with German technology and funded by five foreign governments.

London, Nov 12 : A new research has dispelled fears that In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) may elevate women’s risk of developing breast cancer.

The nationwide study in the Netherlands found that the fertility treatment has no effect on the disease.

Although no firm link between IVF and breast cancer has been established, some boffins are worried about the potential effects of fertility drugs used to stimulate the ovaries so that eggs can be collected and fertilised, reports Times Online.

More than 200 Muslims attended a packed public meeting in Tower Hamlets and were told by organiser Anjem Choudary: “We have a special surprise, a special treat for you. Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad will be joining us on a live feed from Lebanon.”

London, Nov 12: One of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s bodyguards triggered a security scare at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport when he accidentally fired a shot.

Blair was in Israel for peace talks and was rushed on to his plane amid the panic. The weapon went off as it was being unloaded ahead of the flight.

“There was an incident this morning at Ben Gurion Airport when one of Blair’s bodyguards’ guns accidentally went off,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

London, Nov 12: A Royal Commission report in UK has raised concern that just like asbestos, nanomaterials may turn out to be fatally dangerous for humans in the future.

The report called for extensive safety checks to be implemented, or else, the use of nanomaterials may actually kill people in the future.

The experts, analysing the effects of the technology, fear that when nanomaterials escape into the environment they can damage people and wildlife.

However, it may be too late before the effects become visible.

Already, general usage materials such as asbestos, leaded petrol, CFCs and cigarettes, were introduced without giving an eye to the potential damage.
