London, Oct 25 : Stress looming from global financial crisis, has cost NHS more than 2 billion pounds a year, according to a new report.

Treating health problems arising out of wide range of domestic woes, from divorce to neighbour disputes, following financial crisis is costing huge amounts to NHS.

The researchers questioned 5,000 adults in England and Wales about so-called "civil-law problems" for which a remedy could be sought in court, including consumer disputes, employment issues, homelessness, domestic violence, disputes over benefits, child custody, immigration or mental health, and accidents where someone was to blame.

It showed 34 per cent of people said they had suffered at least one such problem.

New Delhi - Indian investigative agencies have found the money trail in a multimillion-dollar kidney transplant racket leading to Hong Kong and Australia, and will ask authorities in those to help in the probe, news reports said Sunday.

The alleged kingpin of the racket, Amit Kumar, and his associates are accused of performing more than 500 kidney transplant surgeries over a decade by procuring organs for paltry sums of money from poor people and transplanting them on wealthy recipients.

Lahore, Oct 26 : The International Monetary Fund has asked Pakistan to cut military spending by almost a third as fears grew that the country’s economic crisis was now so bad that its role in the war on terror was imperilled, according to a report in The Australian.

The report said the ‘secret IMF demand – one of several things that the country is being asked to agree to for a bailout of its tanking economy – was disclosed as President Asif Ali Zardari prepared to go to Saudi Arabia for help’.

Also on Friday, it was announced that US General David Petraeus would travel to Islamabad next week for talks.

Islamabad, Oct 26 : Indus Water Commissioner (IWC) Jamaat Ali Shah has said Pakistan will approach the World Bank and receive compensation from India for obstructing water flow from the Chenab River and defects in the design of the Baglihar Dam.

Talking to Indian journalists at the Indra Gandhi Airport before his departure to Pakistan, Jamaat Ali Shah said he visited the district Doda of Jammu and Kashmir and found several defects in the Baglihar Dam.

“Talks at length were held with my Indian counterpart but I am not satisfied with it,” he said.

Islamabad, Oct 25 : Pakistan was fully committed to the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project, which was expected to meet substantial portion of “our energy needs”, said the country’s Law Minister Farooq Naek.

He said this while speaking in the Senate here last evening.

Washington - US stock indices posted steep drops on opening Friday, plunging more than 4 per cent on continued uncertainty over the state of the global economy.

The weak opening in New York followed sharp falls in Europe, Asia and the Middle East earlier in the day on fears of a recession following the widening financial crisis.
