Russia vetoes Zimbabwe sanctions

New York - Russia on Friday vetoed sanctions against Zimbabwe when the UN Security Council took action on a draft resolution to punish the government of President Robert Mugabe.
Nine of the 15-nation council voted for and five against. But the Russian negative vote constituted a veto as it is a permanent member of the council. (dpa)
