S. Africa to boycott Champions Trophy
South Africa has announced to boycott the Champions Trophy. The cricket tournament is coming in Pakistan next month. The decision in this regard is taken at the meeting of Cricket South Africa, International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat and ICC security officials. South Africa is a first country to officially boycott the tournament.
The South Africa Cricketers Association has expressed security concerns about playing matches in Pakistan. The cricket board has taken this decision after much deliberation. The teams from England, New Zealand and Australia are also reluctant to play in Pakistan following security concerns. The president of Cricket South Africa said that Pakistan is not a safe place for the game and ICC should search the new location as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has shown interest to host the champion’s trophy. Sri Lanka Cricket Chief Executive, Duleep Mendis said that that the country is a best alternate for the match.
