Sensex Up By 47.44 Pts; Nifty Gains 10.15 Pts

Indian_StockIndian stock market benchmarks closed the choppy session positively for sixth successive session on Friday, taking support from optimistic global signals.

The major supporters during the day were consumer durables, PSU, banking and IT space, whereas profit booking was seen in FMCG, realty and oil & gas stocks.

The market belled the day with a gain of 37.71 points but could not hold on to gains as investors reserved profits near the levels of resistance. The BSE Sensex traded in a subdued manner amid volatility. At last, it ended in green hitting an intra-day of 16,337.98.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index dropped 0.13% and 0.38% respectively.

During July 2009, index for industrial production (IIP) fell 6.8% as compared to 7.8% in June 2009. The administration declared that it amended the industrial production for June from 7.8% to 8.2%.

The Sensex marked its closure at 16, 264.30, up 47.44 points, after hitting a high of 16,337.98 and a low of 16,130.32. Nifty ended the day with a gain of 10.15 points at
4,829.55. It also touched a high of 4,856.15 and a low of 4,791.55.

The gainers' list included ICICI Bank, Hindalco Industries, Infosys Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel and Wipro.

On the other hand, the major losers in the Sensex were DLF, JP Associates, Hero Honda Motors, HUL, Maruti Suzuki India, and Grasim Ind.

European stocks surged as Chinese economic data, which surpassed estimations and augmented predictions for oil demand, strengthened the earnings viewpoint for commodity makers.

Asian stocks came up after Chinese economic figures beat economist estimations. Japanese benchmark index Nikkei fell 69.34 points to end at 10,444.33. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index increased 91.86 points to close at 21,161.42. China's Shanghai Composite surged 64.91 points to settle at 2,989.79
