Sensex Slips 133.45 Pts On Selling Pressure
Indian equities markets declined as investors continued their selling action today morning.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which belled the day at 17,723.99, lost 133.45 points (0.75%) at 17,642.2575 as against its last close at 17,775.7.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was ruling 0.78% down to trade at 5,271.25.
Broader markets indices witnessed hefty selling, with the BSE midcap index slipped 2.3% and the BSE small cap index down by 2.6%.
On Tuesday, the BSE Sensex marked its closure below 18K at 17,775.7 after shedding 261.49 points (-1.45%).
The Sensex ended below 18K mark on Aug 31, 2010.
The broad-based Nifty closed 1.55% down at 5,312.55.
Broader markets also witnessed heavier selling, with the BSE midcap index declined 2.42% and the BSE small cap index lost 3.23%.
The overall market breadth on Tuesday remained pessimistic as it saw 551 progressions as against 2,299 declinations.
The major gainers on the 30-scrip Sensex comprised Bajaj Auto, Tata Power, Cipla, and Hindalco Industries.
