Six-Year-Old Jigsaw Kid With 5 Spleens Shows Constant Improvement

Jigsaw KidThe 6-year-old girl Bethany Jordan, who is suffering from an extremely rare genetic disorder known as the ‘Ivermark Syndrome’, was born with five spleens, a hole in her heart, a diseased, back-to-front liver, two left lungs and her stomach on the wrong side.

Ivermark Syndrome is characterized by a poorly-formed cardiovascular system and organs in the wrong place.

Bethany, a resident of Stourbridge, West Mids, England, has amazed physicians by withstanding the odds as they (doctors) did not expect her to survive at birth.

But now she is six years old, and is now progressing towards becoming a strong kid.

“Doctors said her insides were like a jigsaw,” said Bethany’s mom. “If she does any exercise you can see her heart beating through her back.”

During pregnancy checks in 2003, physicians at Birmingham Women’s Hospital could not find any spleen in her, and asked Lisa (37) and Robert Jordan (44) that their baby may suffer from mongolism and neurological disorder.

Despite all this, Lisa gave birth to the baby (Bethany), who spent her first 10 days in an incubator.

Bethany underwent some heart and liver surgeries.

However, Bethany doctors are positive about her condition.

Dr. Patrick McKiernan, a liver consultant at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where Bethany is being treated, said that Bethany’s health is getting better.

“We only need to see her twice a year now, which is great news for her and her family. She will eventually need a liver transplant but at the moment we are just waiting to see when that will be,” he said.

“She is doing very well despite all of her problems, I think she's a very tough little girl,” Dr. McKiernan added.

Bethany will undoubtedly have troubles in later life. But currently her family is determined to cherish every second she spends with them.
