Stella & Chewy's recalls Several Products for Dogs and Cats due to Listeria Concerns

In the wake of Listeria found in a sample of chicken freeze-dried patties, several products for dogs and cats are being voluntarily recalled by pet food maker Stella & Chewy's. A full list of recalled dinners and treats has been made available by the company on its website.

“The health and safety of our customers and their pets is always of the utmost importance to us. We are accountable for everything we make and highly committed to the quality and integrity of our products. We are working with the FDA to further investigate and quickly address the situation”, said Stella & Chewy's.

Healthy people exhibit flu-like symptoms, like headache and nausea, due to listeria, which could prove lethal for children and elderly. So far, there have been no reports of illnesses in people or animals, said Stella & Chewy's.

Those who have purchased the recalled products should either throw them away or return to the stores they have bought them from for a complete refund.

The recall from Stella and Chewy's is the latest after presence of Listeria monocytogenes in lot number 111-15 was discovered by the Department of Agriculture in Maryland.

The company’s CEO Jen Guzman said the state's health authorities asked them to stop the supply of the contaminated products in the market. Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties was the product examined by the company then. But the company stressed to pay extra attention and decided to recall all the other products that belonged to the same lot.
