Stem-Cell Ruling Causes Gloom, Anxiety among scientists
The ruling that has put a pause on the use of embryonic stem cells for research has been described as a step which has covered the prospects of a very promising discovery with sand. The scientists engaged in this research are much tensed regarding their employment security with their entire life time’s work at stake as it has been termed as a violation of a federal law by a district judge’s verdict.
This law which was legislated in the 1996 prevents the state’s administration from funding any research programs that would inflict impairment to human embryonic cells during experimentation.
An appeal against the judge’s preliminary verdict is being looked into by the Justice department of the Obama administration. This preliminary ruling has barred all the experiments and research programs which require the use of embryonic cells underway in the country.
This has led to about 50 fresh funding applications that were impending before the NIH for assessment and consent have been put on a hold.
