Susan Landau’s first Hindi language film ‘Road’ showcased

Susan-LandauUS based producer Susan Landau has worked on her first Hindi language film, Road which is being showcased around the world in various film festivals.

The movie starts actor Abhay Deol, whose character Vishnu takes the audiences on an exotic journey in the deserts.

Landau has worked with Dev Benegal to make the film and she said that the choice of Hindi language was mostly his. She expressed that she supports filmmaker's decisions as she said that he knows all about technical side as well as the artistic side of filmmaking.

She also said that the movie demanded it should be in Hindi because it would look very odd if people in the middle of the desert spoke English. She has produced the movie Marigold based on India in English language. That movie was about an American girl coming to Mumbai to work in films.

Susan said that many people are looking into the Indian film industry to make profits but there is hardly any movie which has crossed over. She cited the success of Slumdog Millionaire which was an Indian based movie made by a British director to say that she does not care what people say about the movie.

Despite having a busy event calendar, she choose to produce the films due to three reasons, first she liked the script and knows about cinema trucks in India, second she loves traveling and third was because of Mr. Benegal.

The movie has been first showcased in many festivals like Toronto, Doha Tribeca, Berlin, and Tokyo Film Festivals as they wanted the movie to be a festival film. Its launch was delayed also delayed due to the strike in Bollywood.

She said that the response in these festivals to the film from Asian as well as non Asian audience was deep and very good.

About the harsh conditions on the location of the film shooting she said that some times she just thought of getting out alive and didn't care about the film however 'Dev never lost focus,' she said.

She explained that movie is not a typical movie with only songs and dances and will appeal to the educated masses. The production team partnered with Studio 18 to give it an international flavor.

The team has planned a unique promotion for the film on the cinema trucks but had to drop the idea because of regulations about the weight of the trucks in different states and cities.

She has also expressed concerns over the piracy in India and said that the team has tried to maintain control and people will respond to quality cinema.
