A T and T drops Woods sponsorship

A T and T drops Woods sponsorshipLondon, Jan 1 : US mobile phone giant AT and T became the latest sponsor to turn tail on Tiger Woods following allegations of multiple extra-marital affairs, which soiled the golfer’s pristine image.

The US mobile phone giant joined other major sponsors including Accenture and Gillette in dropping or cutting back their association with Woods.

AT and T said: “We are ending our sponsorship agreement with Tiger Woods and wish him well in the future”. A spokesman for the company declined to comment further.

AT and T struck a deal with Woods earlier this year to put its logo on his golf bag but has a longer association with the 33-year-old who hosts the annual AT andT National golf tournament, which he won this year.

The AT andT National website today continued to advertise Woods as the host of the next tournament in Philadelphia from June 29 to July 4, 2010.

As many as 12 women claimed to be the golfer’s mistresses, with some alleging ongoing relationships that pre-dated his 2004 marriage to Swedish nanny Elin Nordegren.

Woods has admitted "transgressions" and announced an indefinite break from the professional golf in order to focus on his family.

Woods was thought to earn up to 100 million dollars a year from sponsorship before his "transgressions" became public. (ANI)
