Take-Two Interactive reports narrowed quarterly loss for July-September quarter

Take-Two Interactive reports narrowed quarterly loss for July-September quarter In its recently-released earnings report for the July-September quarter, game publisher Take-Two Interactive posted a narrowed quarterly loss as compared to the los figures for the same quarter last year, though profitability still eluded the company.

According to the figures reported by Take-Two, the company's revenue for the quarter witnessed a two-fold increase to $273 million, from the previous year same quarter revenue figures of $107 million which were largely driven by the release of Civilization V: Game of the Year Edition.

As a result of the increased year-on-year revenue, the quarterly loss of Take-Two reduced to $12.5 million during the July-September quarter this year; vis-a-vis the $47.4 million loss that the company reported during the same three-month period in 2011.

The improvement in the quarterly sales of Take-Two was chiefly an upshot of the contribution from the Borderlands 2 title, the shipments of which have now touched the `5 million' mark. Along with Borderlands 2, the other key contributors to the company's sales for the reporting quarter included GTA IV; Red Dead Redemption; NBA 2K13; and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Noting that Take-Two's revenue and earnings for the second quarter were largely "driven by the breakout success of 2K's Borderlands 2 and robust demand for our catalog and digitally delivered offerings," the publisher's Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a news release: "The outlook for our upcoming releases such as BioShock Infinite is stronger than ever."
