The country's sixth largest cellular firm in terms of customers, Tata Telecommunications is going to introduce a new way of charging calls made by the customers by completely redefining telecom pricing paradigm.

It would charge on a per call basis instead of pulse system, the traditional way of charging calls. Thus, duration of call will be no issue and the customers have to pay Rs 1 per local call and Rs 3 for making STD call at any network irrespective of the time they take to complete the call.

Tata's MD Anil Sardana said, "There is no catch or any hidden charges. We have never gone back on a promise and our business model involves earning the respect and trust of our customers."

The concept, first in its kind in the world, will do away with conventional method of charging besides offering call based billing system for unlimited period. It would be initially made available to CDMA customers, sparking a fresh tariff war in India's hugely competitive mobile market.
