Sherlock Holmes set for modern makeover

BBC NewsLondon, January 19 : Sherlock Holmes is being revamped to be presented as a modern, contemporary character for a BBC version of the tales.

The makeover, masterminded by ‘League Of Gentleman’ actor Mark Gatiss and ‘Doctor Who’ writer Steven Moffat, will see the genius in a milieu of computers, MP3 players and mobile phones, and minus his signature clothes.

The 60-minute film, titled ‘Sherlock’, already in production, will depict the pipe-clenching crime-fighter as an injured veteran from conflict in Afghanistan, the same starting point as in the original story created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

BBC to make contemporary version of Sherlock Holmes

BBC NewsLondon, Dec 20 : The BBC is set to make a modern-day take on the life of Sherlock Holmes.

Set in modern-day London, the contemporary version will star Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Freeman, star of `The Office', will play Dr Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch will star as the famous sleuth.

"Our Sherlock is a dynamic superhero in a modern world, an arrogant, genius sleuth driven by a desire to prove himself cleverer than the perpetrator and the police - everyone in fact," The Telegraph quoted Piers Wenger, Head of Drama at BBC Wales, as saying.
