TCS to hire 25,000 people; eyeing public sector projects
Tata Group's IT arm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has announced its decision to hire 25,000 people for the current financial year, expecting good revenue from government projects. The company hopes to recover around 10 per cent of its total revenue from public sector projects like 'Passport Seva Project' and e-panchayat.
TCS Vice-President (Head Global Government Industry Group) Tanmoy Chakrabarty, on the sidelines of an e-revolution conference organized jointly by Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, said: "Currently, our revenue from government projects is very small and we want to raise it to at least 10 per cent of our total revenue in the next three years."
TCS's total revenue stood at $6 billion during the last financial year, and the company expects to achieve $10 billion target in next few years, with due contribution from the domestic and international market. The company, having total headcount of 145,000 people, will soon announce recruitment drive for supporting its ongoing and upcoming projects.
Regarding its interest in Unique Identification Database (UID), headed by Infosys former Co-Chairman Nandan Nilekan, TCS Vice-President said: "We would like to avail opportunities to be thrown by UID projects, although they are still in early stages."
