Thirteen German soldiers injured in car mishap

Thirteen German soldiers injured in car mishap Bad Salzungen, Germany - More than a dozen German army conscripts were injured at their barracks Monday when a soldier drove his private car into the group in the early hours of the morning.

Seven soldiers were badly injured and a further six suffered mild injuries when the car drove into a group of 30 soldiers gathered in front of a weapons storage room.

"We assume that it was an accident without deliberate intent," said Lieutenant Colonel Philipp Leyde of the 393rd Tank Batallion, stationed at the Bad Salzungen barracks in central Germany.

The driver, who was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, was in shock after the incident.

The group of soldiers consisted of army conscripts completing their military service.

Three soldiers from the Bad Salzungen barracks died in Afghanistan in June, when their armoured vehicle fell into a moat whilst under attack. (dpa)
