Thunderstorms claim seven in Poland

Thunderstorms claim seven in PolandWarsaw  - Seven people were dead and nearly a hundred injured after storms raged across Poland and much of central Europe, leaving thousands without electricity, Polish media reported Friday.

Strong winds late Thursday night blocked roadways and destroyed electrical lines.

There were three fatalities in the central Lodzkie province as two people were crushed by trees and one person was electrocuted. The victims included a 24-year-old pregnant woman who died after her car was crushed by a tree, reported the Polish Press Agency PAP.

Three people died and nearly 50 were injured in the southern province of Dolnoslask as broken trees blocked roads through the district, reported PAP. Two of the victims were crushed by falling trees while the third was drowned.

The central Wielkopolskie district reported one fatality when a person was crushed by a tree. Thirty-six others were injured.(dpa)
